13 QUESTIONS WITH MUMMULA

It's Horror Hoot interview time!
To kick things off we have rounded up the members of MUMMULA! The bandaged vamps from Ohio..

Let us not delay any further - here's 13 Questions with MUMMULA

NAMES RANKS AND SERIAL NUMBERS PLEASE:
Eric von Goosebump:bass and vocals
El Santos: guitar and vocals
Jon Alien: guitar and vocals
Mark Hofthevampyre: Drums
I’d give serial numbers, but this keyboard doesn’t have keys for vampieroglyphics.

IS THERE A STORY BEHIND THE NAME MUMMULA OTHER THAN THE OBVIOUS?
Well, we’re called Mummula because that’s what we are: Mummulas. That’s what happens when your dad’s a Dracula and your mommy’s a mummy.

HOW LONG HAS MUMMULA BEEN AROUND AND WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW ABOUT YOU?
Mummulas have been around since the dawn of time. But as a band, it’s been about four years.

ARE YOU ALL FULL BLOODED OHIOANS?
Well, we don’t really have blood, per se. It’s more like a mixture of sand and the milk that’s left over after a bowl of Count Chocula. We’re all originally from Sandsylvania, but a few years back our Mummula overlord, Iggy, sent us to the midwest to spread the Mummula curse.

WHAT BANDS/RECORDS MAKE YOU GET UP AND BOUNCE AROUND?
We each bring our influences to the table, but there’s definite overlap when it comes to punk, garage, and surf…and if it’s spooky, even better! We have an obvious love for the Misfits and the Ramones. The Ghastly Ones are a creepy kinda’ cool. We have a soft spot in our heart-holes for ‘60s monsterkid culture. And it’s really amazing being able to share a bill with Forbidden Dimension, because they’ve been huge as well!

LAST GOOD BAND YOU HEARD FOR THE FIRST TIME?
EvG: Mrs. Magician, from California. They’ve got a perfect balance of raw, drippy, and catchy as all get-out!
MH: KEN Mode “Success”-- a post hardcore band from Canada that’s like angry beat poetry! Probably that or the two folks who wrote the theme song to “Barbarella” -- psychadella!
JA: The Inseminoids, from Sweden. Surfy, trashy punk rock. Those guys are the best!
ES: Mean Jeans outta Portland Oregon - PARTY PUNK!

LAST GREAT FILM YOU SAW FOR THE FIRST TIME?
EvG: I saw Kubo and the Two Strings a few weeks ago and it was really cool! Magic, folklore, and some nice moments of creepy atmosphere!
MH: Also gotta be Barbarella. Only the goodness of Jane Fonda saving the universe in wacky ways! If only my sarcophagus was covered in shag carpet like her spaceship!
JA: Lady Snowblood. Action-thriller from Japan, made in 1973. It’s the movie that inspired Tarantino to do Kill Bill, and it’s a beautiful, bloody masterpiece!
ES: Green Room - if you’re a touring punk band, watch out!

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE STATE OF POP CULTURE TODAY? BANDS, MOVIES OTHER TRENDS?
EvG: American pop culture is a mystery to us. Where are the pyramids? Where are the camels? And bats? Maybe someday you’ll get it together…
MH: When’s Mummula gonna come out with a horrifying concept album?
JA: Pop culture makes me think of pop, which makes mewant a Cherry Coke. Mmm, Cherry Coke.
ES: We’re still trying to figure out how to do the Truffle Shuffle.

BESIDES MAKING GREAT ROCK N ROLL, WHAT ACTIVITIES OR HOBBIES FLOAT YOUR BOAT?
EvG: I draw a lot and make things, so I’m always working on art and other stuff at Moon Rock Collective. That and the band keep me pretty busy, but lately I’m watching the heck outta’ Steven Universe! MH: I play saxophone and make hair oils in my spare time for ghouls and ghosts alike! Keeps a mane fresh and pungent!
JA: I’m obsessed with an internet show called Critical Role, where voice actors play Dungeons & Dragons. Also, yoga. I recently got my certification to teach, and hope to do lots of that!
ES: Lately I’ve been making my way around the Commonwealth in Fallout 4 and catching up on issues of Haunted Horror by Yoe Books!

ASIDE FROM PLAYING THE HORROR HOOT DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER PLANS WHILE IN NASHVILLE?
EvG: We definitely plan on stopping by Dinosaur World on the way down. Probably check out Third Man Records. Maybe grab a Goo Goo Cluster, while we’re at it!
MH: Crushing local candies because I TREAT myself. Trix are for kids.
JA: Hanging out with pals, old and new!
ES: Visiting Yazoo Brewing and having some Thunderbird Wings!

DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING YOU’D LIKE TO SAY TO THE KOOKY KIDS OF NASHVILLE WHO WILL BE IN THE CROWD ON OCT 1? EvG: It’s hip to be scared!
MH: You will shake your bones before you know it!
JA: Beware! Take care!
ES: Fear will FREEZE you when you face MUMMULA!

IF YOU COULD MEET ANY PERSON, LIVING OR DEAD, WHO WOULD IT BE?
EvG: Probably Vincent Price. He seemed like a real class act!
MH: Brad Pitt — Legend amongst the vampires. He sucks the life out of everyone!
JA: I’d probably go with Vincent Price as well, but to change it up, I’ll say Joey Ramone. Ooh, or Rod Serling! Could we change it to a top ten list?
ES: I gotta go with Mr. Rogers. He was an uncommonly kind and caring person who made a huge difference in a lot of lives!

WHEN IS THE NEXT MUMMULA SLAB AND WHAT SHOULD THE KIDS EXPECT?
We have our debut album that’s quasi-released right now. We’ve sold a few DIY copies that we hand-assembled in Mummula Manor, but hope to have the official copies soon. It’s a cassette release with some fun scratch-off digital download cards. 14 tracks of spooky, surfy punk, with cover art by Tom Bagley! It’s guaranteed to scare anyone to death...and back!

Thanks to MUMMULA for enduring ridiculous questions! Now here's some MUMMULA music!
